Mo Money, Mo Problems
A massive problem that so many
students face when going out is “Will I have enough money for tonight?” or “Should
I take my card because then I can get more drinks?” It is such a bad thing in
my opinion to take your card out when clubbing. It takes so long to sort your
account again, you have to block on it and everything. I know what I am talking
about because this has happened to me.
Last January, I went to Dungeon
with my friends, taking my Samsung Galaxy S3 and my wallet with all my cards.
My friends were all telling me not to mix drinks but me being as stubborn as a
mule, I didn’t want to listen to them, I should of heeded there advice because
what happened later could only be explained as devastating . I got so drunk
that I passed out in Dungeon, my friend Raheem carried me out of the club, taking
me into a pizza shop, I threw up in there and threw up outside. This total
dickhead who pretended to “help” me, brought tissues out to wipe vomit from my
mouth while stealing both my wallet and my phone. I was carried back to my
student halls with a bottle of water put on my cupboard so when I woke up, I
had something to drink.
This has shown me the importance
of knowing how much I am able to drink and how much money I should be taking.
All students should take a leaf out of my book, which is find a time during the
day that is convenient for you. If you know you’re going out but need money for
a taxi, take out £40 but keep £10 in a secret place in your wallet/purse for
the taxi home. If you know that you don’t need to get a taxi home, £30 is substantial
amount to be taking out. Taking your debit/credit cards is not needed at all,
there are people in and outside of clubs who are watching you like a vulture, and
they will try and steal your card if possible. Another thing that students don’t
understand when they are really drunk is that the charge for a card can be
really dear like £10, so if you’re getting an Archers & Lemonade which cost
like £3, a Jager bomb that cost £1.50 and a shot of White Sambuca that cost £2,
adding all that up together it would come up to £16.50, that’s crazy.
Another problem that students
could face if they take their cards out, imagine you get your pin wrong like 3
times and block your card. That will probably be the most embarrassing thing
ever. You’re waiting there, trying to get your pin right and then you have to
see the bar staff throw your drinks away.
If students don’t want to listen
to me about taking their cards out, then listen to me about being vigilant when
you are going out. Be aware of your surroundings and stay near the bar when you
are getting your drinks, that way the bar people can see everything that you
are doing so if anything happens, you can tell them as soon as it happens.
Be vigilant but have fun at the
same time.
