What brought me to Solent

The open day at Southampton Solent university really changed  my perspective about going to university. My choices that motivated my decision to come to this excellent university would obviously be the grades that I would receive from doing my courses which were Business Studies, Media Studies and ICT. I had to get 240 UCAS points in order to get into Southampton Solent which I was able to achieve by getting a Distinction * in Business Studies, a Distinction in ICT and a Merit in Media. My next choice that would get me into the university would obviously be my shining personal statement which involved details about my course, what experience I had with Journalism before I would come to the University and whether I was passionate about the course and how could I prepare myself for University.

My decision was never to go to University at all. I didn't really know what I wanted to do with my life but it wasn't until I had a careers interview which really opened my eyes about my responsibilities in my life. Another decision was when I arrived at the university and I remembered about the declaration form for Student Finance which wasn't really funny at the time but when the situation had been sorted out, it was quite funny.

When I first arrived at the university, I was quite shocked at the size of my room compared to the way it had been presented on the accommodation website on the virtual tour of the room. My first words of the size of the room was that "it was smaller than the stable Mary and Joseph had baby Jesus in". After the first week, I am starting to grow fond of my room even though the size of it is not desired. Living on my own will take some getting used to from my opinion of the silly system of using the dryer and washing machine to the loud fire drill on Friday morning at 10:30. The main part of living on my own is cooking my own dinner because I am so used to my mum cooking my dinner, but the advantage of cooking my own dinner is that I can eat whatever I want!!

I am happy about my decisions and choices as they have brought me to this fine University. I have met so many different people who are very different to the friends that I have back at home. I am loving this experience because everything is in such close proximity in Southampton which is really useful.
